Description: vertical ōban; musha-e; nishiki-e
Label Text: This print is signed "Toyokuni ga" ('drawn by Toyokuni) at lower right, above the publisher's seal of Yamaguchiya Tōbei, which is nearly undecipherable owing to condition but has been identified based on comparison with other examples. The circular kiwame seal of the publisher appears immediately to the left of the signature. The figure is identified by the text at upper-right which reads "Hideyoshi Isao(?)," with the final kanji having several possible readings. This is likely meant to be Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the famed 16th century warlord, who took several names within his life. The inscription does not correspond to any of the well-known names; however, several variants do exist.
