This print is signed "Kōchōrō Kunisada ga" ('drawn by Kōchōrō Kunisada'), a signature used by the artist from ca. 1825–1861. To the lower-right of the signature are the circular kiwame seal of the censor, indicating a date of inspection between 1815 and 1842, as it is used singly. Beneath the kiwame is the mark of publisher Yamamotya Heikichi, an overlapping double-mountain peak above the character "kyū," a reference to his firm Eikyūdō. This print appears to reuse the blocks from an earlier Kunisada design, published by Nishimuraya Yohachi, which features the courtesan Kaomachi, also of Tamaya (see Boston MFA 34.426a-b). Neither version identifies the kamoru. - BB, 2013
