Description: bijinga; trimmed vertical ōban; nishiki-e
Label Text: The oiran — a kind of high-ranking courtesan distinguished by the ornamentation of her hair — is identified at middle-left as Matsushima of the pleasure house Wakamatsuya. Beneath the title is the artist's signature, which reads "Ittosai Yoshitsuna ga" ('drawn by Ittosai Yoshitsuna') and the mark of the publisher Iseya Bunshichi within the rectangular cartouche. Little is known about the publisher though it is certain that he worked with both Kunisada and Kuniyoshi, who was Yoshitsuna's teacher.
