Description:
A Japanese sword with wooden handle covered with snake skin, terminating in a brass tsuba. The wooden scabbard is covered with snake skin, with five brass bands, and ornamented with nine circular brass plates carrying Tokugawa crest ("circle around three hollyhock leaves").

SKINNER CATALOGUE: A short Japanese (miniature style) with slightly curved steel blade, 18 1/2" long, 15/16 wide. Blade groove painted red. 4 1/4" wooden handle covered with snake skin, terminating in a brass plate. Four leaf brass guard with engraved brass plates on each side. Wooden scabbard covered with snake skin, with five brass bands, and ornamented with nine circular brass plates carrying a trefoil design. Black tape lanyard. Cat. 9/27/1935.
