SKINNER CATALOGUE: A native hunting spear from Northern Rhodesia, South Africa. The blade is square, long, and narrow, of hand forged wrought iron, with two opposing corners notch cut nearly the whole length, with the resulting points bent up and sideways to form barbs. The head is driven into a long thin stick handle, the end of which is bound with wide and fine iron wire, which serves as a ferrule. The natives of this region have long forged their own iron, obtaining it from native ore, and using charcoal fires. Head: 12 1/8" x 11/32" square. Cat. 6/3/1937.
