Description:
Wholecloth, cotton quilt done in cylinder or roller printed cotton with a dense, floral spray design in a short, repeating pattern with red and white flowers, and leaves in two shades of green and blue and yellow accents on a blue ground (possibly blue resist); beige cotton backing; and cotton batting. The quilt edges are folded in and closed with a running stitch to form a knife edge. The quilting pattern resembles a four-pointed star in a circle done in white cotton (probably) thread. Purchasing enough fabric to make a quilt such as this example was probably a considerable investment when compared to using leftover pieces of furnishing fabrics. There is several areas of fading on the front (probably sun-bleached) and staining on the back.

Subjects:
Textile fabrics; Cotton
