Description:
Woman's corset dating to the late 19th century, featuring back lacing with front metal hooks. Stamped on waistline stay "Special Importation/ James McCreery & Co. New York/" The trademark stamp has the words "BIEN FAIRE ET LAISSER DIRE" (a kind of proverb meaning do right and fear no man) around an image of a unicorn and crown with the initials PD. James McCreery & Company was a New York City purveyor of ready-made corsets and other dry goods.
