Description:
Piece of linen or cotton printed with the American eagle over military trophies and bordered with the inscription "1776-1876 In God We Trust / U.S.of A. Welcome Centennial." The time of America's centennial spurred the production of many souvenir items that referenced the founding of the United States, especially the colonial period and the new nation. These consumer goods promoted patriotism using evocative motifs and words.
