Label Text: SKINNER CATALOGUE: Chair. An especially fine 18th century "Northern" or New England slat back side chair. Maple throughout except front stretchers, which are hickory. Three slats strongly curved, the upper widest, the lower narrowest. Front and back posts strongly fing turned; spheroidal finials also with strong turnings. Two front stretchers ball and vase turned and worn; two side and single back stretchers plain. All typical of the early 18th century New England slat back chairs. Twisted rush seat not original.
