The text of this image is: He had hoped to find in his lifetime something certain_ One object that he could know as real, one constant that could be trusted, leaned against. Perhaps a room that would contain a clue, one glance that would reveal, one person who could speak from the center, a firm touch in the midst of the confusion. But there was no one. He would end frightened and with questions on his lips.
