Description:
One of two creamware tureens with a cover and stand, decorated with several intricate pierced or openwork patterns. The domed cover has an elaborate floral knop with stem and traces of gilding; one cover has a small arched opening in the rim edge and the other has a square opening. The tureen body has a flared and fluted edge and double intertwined ribbed handles with trailing foliate terminals, both with traces of gilding, fluted base, and small molded foot. The stand has a coggled rim edge and openwork rim, fluted curvature, and a small raised rim around the well over which the tureen body's foot fits. These tureens were likely used on the dessert table perhaps for sugar or a sauce.
