Description:
ca. late 19th or early 20th century plaster cast of a marble original dating to the Classical Period, ca. 447-432 BCE. According to the organizational system implemented by Ian Jenkins, this is a cast of block XLIV from the north frieze of the Parthenon, located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The Parthenon frieze depicts the Panathenaic procession held in honor of Athena, the patron goddess of Athens. On this block, three horsemen appear riding in file. Two of the riders wear long sleeves. The original marble relief after which this cast is made is located at the British Museum in London, England.
