Description:
English Worcester porcelain saucer and coffee cup (HD 82.057) with a white body with swirled flutes, decorated with purple and gilt flower and foliate sprays and gilt-edged rims, and with a "12" printed under the glaze on the base of the cup. According to the donor, they were made by Worcester Porcelain during its operation under the partnership of Joseph Flight (1762-1838) and Martin Barr (c.1757-1818) from c.1792-1804. Joseph Flight was the son of Thomas Flight (1726-1800), Worcester's London agne who purchased over the Worcester Warmstry House factory in 1783 for his sons Joseph and John (c.1766-1791). After travelling to France to study the lastest French porcelain designs, John Flight introduced new spiral fluted shapes and French sprig patterns at Worcester, which were were very successful.
