Description:
Off white wool, twill weave blanket with a woven-in design of dark blue double bar windowpane check. The blanket is made up of two selvage widths of fabric (each 36 1/4" wide) that are overcast or whip stitched together at a center seam. Embroidered with the initials "P M C." Both blanket ends turned under and hemmed with a 1/4" hem. Blankets were one of the most common kinds of bed coverings in the 18th and early 19th centuries, as evidenced by probate inventories. Often made of wool, they could be plain or patterned, the latter usually in a checked or striped pattern of two or three colors.
