Description: Man's waistcoat of cotton brocade front, white/off-white plain weave, bleached cotton backing. Padded inserts, secured by buttons, at the hollow of the chest area. Features a narrow shawl collar and rounded lapels. Single breasted with five worked buttonholes (proper left) and corresponding buttonholes (first and third buttons off; one of them saved). Welt pocket on either side, above waist. Back secured by cotton straps and a metal buckle. Inside, at each armscye is an opening in the lining to insert padding in the chest area. Each pad, which is cotton batting and backed with cotton, secures between the lining and the outside fabric by a button and corresponding worked buttonhole in the lining. There is an inside pocket on the proper left side, above the waist.
