Description: Man's navy blue, double-breasted wool coat of fine broadcloth. The coat has U-shaped notches in the narrow lapels. There are five pairs of brass shank buttons that are the size of a modern quarter in diameter. Coat is very full in the chest area. There are stitches from the inside indicating an interfacing at the chest, shoulders, and collar. Interfacing is made of red wool, except at the shoulders, where it is of a plain weave linen. Center back seam flanked by one curved back side seam on each side. There are no side seams. The coat has cut-away tails in the back, measuring 25" in length. There is a center back vent, flanked on either side by a pleat. Decorative, narrow pocket flaps are at the back, at waist seam. The tails are lined on either side with a dark twill, possibly cotton. There are two pairs of matching buttons on the center bottom and center to of the tails. Each sleeve has two seams, an outside and inside one. The sleeves are slightly full at the head. The cuffs secure with three round, small brass buttons. Narrow (1/16") braiding edes the front of coat, collar, center back vent, and cuffs. The sleeves are lined with a printed cotton.
