Description:
Off white wool blanket with a woven in design of dark blue windowpane check. The blanket is made up of two selvage widths of fabric, butt seamed and whip or overcast stitched together. There is a 2 1/4" long fringe at the bottom edge. The blanket is hemmed at the top (1/4" deep). In the 18th and early 19th centuries, blankets were some of the most common types of bed coverings found in probate inventories. Often made from wool, they could be plain or patterned, the latter most often with a checked design in two or three colors.
