Description:
Wooden, rectangular sewing box with a hinged lid over three levels of compartments and drawers filled with sewing supplies such as pincushions, needles, thread, sewing glasses, thimbles, etc. A note found in the box states that the "Sewing box given to Mrs. Greene by her husband. Not very old, made from part of sewing machine. Contents collected by above. Some of thimbles family, some not old." The box has a rectangular inset of mahogany veneer in the center of the lid, over a molded edge. The top edge of the case is surrounded by reeding with a keyhole in the center front; over a bombe body with two circular inlays on each front side and a band of inlay around the lower body; over a molded base. The inside lid has a mirror surrounded by a molded strip, covering the interior box with a removable top tray with multiple compartments, over two movable drawers, over two large compartments on the bottom.
