Description:
In the center of the composition is the half-naked figure of Phoebus, who is partially covered in blue drapery around the waist and left shoulder. Phoebus is driving a golden chariot. His head is turned slightly to the right and looks down, while he holds the reinds of a rearing white horse in the bottom right corner. His other hand rests against the second white horse on the left. The background of the composition is dark brown.

This painting is part of a series of overdoors, which included four works. The others are currently at Howard University Gallery of Art, Washington, DC ("Hercules," or "Force"; 61.155.P; K1271); Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, Ohio ("Allegory of Peace (?)," or "Majesty;" 61.86; K1272); Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick, Maine ("Good Government (in peace and in war)," or "Erminia (?)," 1961.100.8; K1273).
