Description:
Chinese potters had a long tradition of modelling lifelike ceramic figures to accompany important individuals in the afterlife, and developed a special affinity for these sculptures in porcelain. Eighteenth-century Europeans became captivated by these exotic birds, court figures, hound, spaniel, and pug dogs, making them a valuable private cargo. Chinese export porcelain figure of a yellow-brown dog with crossed paws and black eyes. Each dog reclining with tail curled round its haunches, glazed in an ocher yellow with ears, paws, and teeth left white and eyes picked out in black enamel. The dog has been modeled with small sharp teeth.
