Description:
Pair of white/off-white leather shoes with a satin bow and colorless glass beads, white leather lining, and 1 3/4" leather heels. The lable inside reads: "Waldo M. Claflin / 1107 Chestnut St. / Phila." and the mark on the sole reads: "TRADE / W.M.C. / MARK." Born in Milford, Massachusetts, Waldo Milton Claflin (1845-1911) moved to Philadlephia circa 1864, where for more than 45 yrs. he was prominently identified with the shoe business, both as a manufacturer and retailer. He designed the first shoe especially for baseball players about 1884.
