Description:
Crewel-embroidered, linen coverlet done in dark and light blue wool. 18th century ink was often made of oak gall and a piece of rusty iron boiled together. Too much iron in the solution occasionally rotted the fabric later so that the embroidered figures sometimes look as if they had been cut around the edge with curved scissors.
