Description: Pieced, reversible cotton quilt with a pieced, plain weave, cotton side in the Puss in the Corner pattern in browns, blues, pinks, and off-white done circa 1845; a white linen side with nine pieces of blue wool, crewel-embroidered, stylized floral sprays done circa 1770-1790; straight applied cotton binding with a woven stripe; and cotton batting. The nine-patch, cotton side is laid out in alternate blocks (16 vertical rows, 17 horizontal rows) in plain and patterned cotton; and the quilting done in a grid pattern (7 stitiches per inch). The linen side is probably made from head cloths and valences pieced together; the border is made of valences - three are about 8" wide and one is 3 1/2" wide.
