Description:
Colorless lead glass paperweight with a scrambled millefiori pattern of lengths and sections of cane predominantly red, white, and blue. Millefiori means thousand flowers and a millefiori cane has the appearance of a floral pattern. A scrambled weight is one where the pattern is made up of a random jumble of canes which often includes filigree segments. According to glass scholar Dwight Lanmon, glass during a visit in May 1977, this paperweight is Bohemian. According to glass scholar Ken Wilson during a visit in April 1979, this weight is American. Wilson shows a similar weight probably made by the Boston and Sandwich Glass Works. Other paperweight experts Roger Jacobsen and Bernard Drabeck have suggested the New England Glass Company for an origin. Potter Inv. #400.
