The book came to the three Allen sisters - Ruth, Mary and Agnes - of Olean, NY, through the family of their father, Edmund Eliel Allen (1855-1939) of Deerfield, who married Harriett Burnett (1859-1947) of Springfield, Mass, and moved first to Buffalo and then Olean around 1888. His parents were Josiah (b. 1814) of Wapping and Mary Stebbins Allen (b. 1819), daughter of Dennis Stebbins, who married in 1853.
