Description:
Woman's small hat, oval wire support trimmed with brown silk velvet, straw and ribbon trim, all in various shades of brown. The hat is decorated with brown silk ribbons, tan and brown cloth flowers, striped tan silk (fabric gathered on top of hat) and dark brown and white straw laces. Tan silk may have faded from a more orange/brown tone, as seen in the interiors of bows etc. Rows of straw laces are sewn in a scalloped design along the lower edge of the hat. Long rust brown ribbons (29x1.5" with satin vertical stripes along plain edge) hang down the back ("suivez moi, jeune homme"), wired bow in front gives frontal emphasis as well. Lined with white polished cotton, gathered neatly aroud the center opening, and sewn to the velvet trimming the botton edge of the hat. [Card lists date as ca. 1885]
