Description:
Silver teaspoon with a downturned coffin-end handle and pointed oval bowl with a rounded drop and lobed shell on the back, which is marked "S. BARRETT" in a rectangle for Samuel Barrett (c.1735-1815), and engraved with the initials "I : W / M : W" on the front of the handle. Probably born and baptised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Barrett probably completed his training about 1756 and moved his family to Nantucket in 1763. Although active for many years, only his spoons are known.
