Description:
Chinese export porcelain rectangular tea canister with cover decorated in brown and gold on both sides with two islands linked by a peaked bridge, on which there are a two-part building with tower, two tall trees, scrubs, and large rocks around the shore line; there are two peaked mountains the the background. The round cover has a strawberry finial; the canister has a short neck and two sloped molded shoulders outlined in gilt and a foliate spray on each side. George Sheldon donated a tea canister and tray to PVMA described as: "Tea Caddy with Cover and Plate.... Nearly all of the above belonged to Persis (Hoyt) Sheldon, born Feb. 28, 1747; married, June 12, 1769, John Sheldon; died Nov. 2, 1829. Grandmother of the donor." Potter Inventory No. 153.
