Description:
English delft deep, circular dish with blue decoration, which descended in the family of Dr. Thomas Williams (1718-1775) of Deerfield. The well is decorated with a chinoiserie garden scene encircled with two blue bands with a flying insect, fretwork fence, tall grasses, and two large floral sprays - one growing behind four sgraffito leaves and a hollow rock, and the other behind a sgraffito leaf at the end of the fence. The rim edge is decorated with a band of alternating hearts and scratch blue squiggles; and three large scrolling floral sprays extend from the rim into the curvature.
