Description:
Linen coverlet pieced from different embroideries. Central panel motif features a floral pattern adapted from a late 18th century headcloth worked by Keturah Baldwin, surrounded by discreet floral motifs. Cross-stitched initials "M (A or K?) B" below central floral design. Three narrow drop side panels surround center square panel and appear to be cut down and pieced together from original shape. Different flowers, darker blue and in denser compositions, indicate possible different hands/makers. The top panel has two flowers appliqued onto the linen ground. A signature, written in ink on an attached panel (viewed in reverse), appears to read "[Sarah] F? Hoffman [C]."
