Description:
Pair of handspun linen fabric pillow cases with self-fringe on each shorter end. Each case is initialed in red cotton or linen crossstitch "A.M.E." One is further embroidered "No. 3" and the other "No. 4". Each case is contructed as a flat panel that has a long side seam overcast/whipstitched (wrong sides together), and the shorter closed end seamed in the same manner. This pair is an example of the kinds of utilitarian domestic textiles used in New England during the 19th century made from linen, either woven domestically woven or imported.
