Description:
Child's embroidered quilted cap with silk floss embroidery in floral designs on silk brocade ground with a silk velvet inset at back and silk lining. The highly decorated and elaborate cap is constructed with a front piece extending back to a back insert, and the "hood" padded throughout. A front rolled piece is heavily padded and the 2" bavolet is lightly padded as is the rest of the "hood." The back insert consists of a semi-triangular shape made up of a central panel of polychrome silk floss embroidery on a cream silk rep ground, surrounded by a band of silk velvet woven in a floral pattern and narrowly piped on both sides with pink silk. The bavolet has the same ground fabric, a double row of pink piping, and a trailing border of silk floss embroidery. The front roll is heavily embroidered on the same ground. The hood is lined with cream china silk and a row of ruched pink china silk is placed at the front edge and has three bows. Stiches used are satin, outline and french knot.
