Description:
Overshot woven, wool and linen coverlet done in a summer/winter weave in blue and pink wool and white linen, which was made by Mercy Hawks (1785-1854), the daughter of Paul Hawks (1736-1814) of Wapping and Lois Wait (d.1810) of Hatfield, Massachusetts, who married Erastus Childs (1782-1858), a shoemaker and farmer in Wapping, in 1810. The coverlet descended in the Childs family to Virginia Childs Margola, the daughter of Allen Childs, from who the Flynts obtained it.
