Description:
Pair of women's? garters, polychrome chain stitch on cream silk ground. he garters are stuffed or padded, and stiffened with cardboard. Inscription in ink written among the embroidery suggests Italian provenance..."mi xa (or xd) como me po nes" and "pox ui (or vi) au sen (gen) ci a.."Garters tied around the wearer's legs, above the knee, to hold up stockings, which were not elasticized until the 20th century.
