Description:
Shoe (possibly a man's) with the upper made from green plain weave silk with cream colored silk embroidery and metallic embroidery appliqué, and a plain weave linen lining. This shoe is one of the oldest examples in Historic Deerfield’s collection. While its mate no longer survives, it is a good example of styles worn before the middle of the 18th century, featuring a high heel known as a Louis or French heel, and pointed toe. This kind of shoe, with its closely spaced decorative bands of white braided or embroidered lines or laces, was known as a laced shoe. The shoe was also numbered HD 63.238
