Description:
Wool blanket featuring alternating groupings of single and multiple red and blue stripes against an off-white ground. The stripes were woven across the width of the fabric, and are prevalent throughout (not restricted to the ends of the textile). The blanket is made from two selvage widths, each about 40.75" wide. A (modern) backstitched center seam joins the two panels. Striped blankets were a ubiquitous and practical domestic accessory in England, Europe, and the American colonies for hundreds of years.
