Description:
Pieced, linen quilt or coverlet with a pieced, center square (70 1/4" x 61") of red and green, silk embroidery with bell-star shaped flowers and vines on a plain weave, white linen ground, which was probably professionally embroidered in India for export to the western market, and a pieced border of plain weave, white cotton and corner squares of embroidery; knife edge; a plain weave, white linen backing; and no batting. The border is quilted in a trellis pattern with white thread, about 6-7 quilting stitches per inch. The quilt or coverlet is signed on the reverse, "Anne Elizabeth Hopkins / 1[8?]64."
