Description:
Coverlet decorated in wool, crewel embroidery in blues, greens, roses and yellows with scrolling floral sprays in the center, four corners, and three of the four sides on a plain weave, off-white linen ground. According to the previous owner, this coverlet was made by Lucy Bliss of Salem, Massachusetts. However, there is no record of a Bliss family in Essex County, Massachusetts, although there are many Bliss families in colonial Massachusetts, including in Worcester, Rehobeth, Monson, and Springfield, and in Connecticut.
