Description: Womans's hat of rust-colored, napped angora woven fabric. Crown is covered with rust-colored velvet gathered in vertical sections. Two large rust & greyish taffeta silk flowers sewn to velvet (edges are fringed, intricate centers look like large covered buttons. (Taffeta fabric threads are rust weft(?) blue and red together for the warp). Brim is 4.5" sides and front, 3.25" back, lined underneath with rust velvet (same as crown covering). Illusion of large crown over comparatively small head opening (6X6.5"). Inside crown is lined with rust silk, draw string to adjust size.
Label Text: Both of these hats were worn by the donor’s mother, New York native Eleanor Fitzgerald Esleeck (1887-1972). In 1916, she married Irving N. Esleeck, heir to the Esleeck Manufacturing Company in Turner’s Falls (1901-2006). Living in a more rural area, Esleeck continued to shop in New York City for many of her clothes and accessories well into her marriage.
