Chamber pot with cover and handle, decorated with a blue transfer print. A chamber pot was listed in the EH Williams 1838 probate inventory: "Blue Chamber 42 .... 1.92". Chamber pots were functional, utilitarian objects in everyone's home in early America. For cold winter's nights and invalid persons, chamber pots were both a necessity and more convenient than a trip to the backyard privy.
