Description:
Irish or English delft circular punch bowl with blue decoration. Peter Francis in his "Irish Delftware" refers to current research showing that Dublin potteries were responsible for a "wide range of 'coarsely painted' wares" (floral designs "painted in a loose, fluid style") exported to America. The well is decorated with a figure polling along in a boat; there are also eight rivets from an old repair. The outside is decorated with a chinoiserie landscape scene of a large rock with holes, running fence, flowers, foliage, and large flying insect. The bowl is supported on an applied foot ring.

Subjects:
Pottery; glaze (coating by location)
