Description:
English delft circular plate with blue decoration and orange-red rim edge. The plain center, circular panel is surrounded by a blue band of stylized flower heads and scrolls. The rim has four areas of the same flower heads alternating with panels of diaper pattern. Lipski and Archer's, "Dated English Delftware", has a similar plate with the initials "L/ RM" and the date "1748" in the center panel. The London attribution is based on similar rim fragments found at Lambeth and Soutwark excavations; these same rim designs have also been found in Virginia.

Subjects:
Pottery; glaze (coating by location)
