Description:
English or Dutch delft tile decorated with a marbleized, mottled surface in white, orange, and purple/brown that are applied in a random dot/blob pattern and then covered with a thick, glossy layer of lead glaze. This is a typical marbled tile made in The Netherlands. It is not, strickly speaking, a painted tile since the marbling is done with different slips under a lead glaze. There is extensive residue of the setting cement on the reserve side of the tile. See similar example in the Victoria and Albert Museum collection, C. 89-1951.

Subjects:
Pottery; glaze (coating by location)
