Description:
English delft circular plate in blue, green, red, yellow, and brownish-purple. The well is decorated with a bird (cockatoo?) amidst a cluster of flowers and foliage, with a flying insect overhead, all surrounded by two narrow blue bands. The rim is decorated with three clusters of scrolled flowers and foliage, intersperced with floral sprigs, surrounded by a blue band. "The elements, colors, and asymmetry show a strong Japanese influence, whereas most oriental-influenced delft tends to be Chinese in feeling. The Kakiemon influence is more widely seen in England on porcelain of the mid-18th century - Chelsea, Worcester, and Bow, for example" (from Austin, "British Delft at Williamsburg").

Subjects:
Pottery; glaze (coating by location)
