Description: English delft circular plate with blue decoration. The well is decorated with a chinoiserie stylized landscape scene of a house with a tall narrow door and projection from the side of the roof; a tall poplar and pine, and smaller 'telegraph pole' trees; running fence, and rocks and foliage in the foreground; and two flocks of flying birds. The curvature is encircled with a trellis pattern with blue dashes and crosses; the outer rim is surrounded by a series of blue dots in blue squares. Fragments with the same border pattern were found by Garner in Lambeth and in excavations at Colonial Williamsburg; and the Victoria and Albert Museum has a similar plate dated 1760.
