Description:
English delft circular plate with blue decoration. The well is decorated with a chinoiserie landscape scene of a two-section house with 3 chimneys; a tall willow, and two smaller pyramid-like bushes; large, leaning rocky pillar against other layered rocks (a typical Bristol feature) and foliage around the house; and a small island-like clump of a rock and foliage in the foreground. The curvature is encircled with four alternating patterns of 'cracked ice' and stylized flower-head panels; the rim has dark blue semi-circles over a light blue band. The Victoria and Albert Museum has a similar London plate dated 1765 and a Bristol dish about 1750, and the Ashmolean has a colander bowl dated 1751.

Subjects:
Pottery; glaze (coating by location)
