Description:
"Sacred Poetry and Music Reconciled" by Samuel Willard (1776-1859) in a red leather-bound volume embossed in gold "WILLARD"S HYMNS" on the spine and "H. STEBBINS" on the cover, and a floral design around the perimeter of the covers and on the spine. This was probably Henry Stebbins (1806-1870), son of Asa (1767-1844) and Emilia Harvey Stebbins, who married Mary Ann Little Jackson of Orwell, VT, in 1832. There is an inscription in pencil inside the front cover: "H. Stebbins / She's a very / pretty girl, but, / she's a black-/smith's daughter / and He's a very ugly boy / and a farmer's / son into the ? ." In 1807, Samuel Willard was ordained minister of the First Congregational Church of Deerfield where he served until 1829.
