Description:
Redware baker pan with an incised band around the rim and base, and two strap handles that extend from the rim to the base on opposite sides. The interior of the pan is glazed; the exterior and handles are not glazed. New England potters made coarse, utilitarian plates and dishes from local clays. The inherent fragility of these inexpensive wares caused them to break from use. The iron impurities in the clay give the body its distinctive red color.

Subjects:
Pottery; glaze (coating by location); Redware
