Description: Forcing bulbs in winter became extremely popular in the early 19th century, stimulating the production of porcelain and pottery bulb pots. Hyacinth, crocus, or narcissus bulbs were positioned in the three cups on the lid and water was added to the reservoir below. English pearlware, semi-circular bulb pot with a flat back supported by three semi-circular bun feet. There is a semi-circular removable lid with a stepped edge and flat top. The three circular holes in the top are surmounted by hemi-spherical, reeded bottomless cups fixed in place. The body of the pot is topped with a relief band with scalloped edges; and with three human masks, interspersed with oak leaves and acorns. There are traces of gilding visible on the relief band. There is is a raised, molded border over the three panels; the panels are separated by molded borders.
