Description: Pair of black rayon-covered high-heeled shoes with pointed toes and rhinestones glued on the back of the stilleto heels in a sunburst pattern, which are marked "Mr. Seymour" and "Mr. Seymour Designer Collection" on the inside bottom. The shoes are known as stilettos, a reference to the high, thin heels that resemble the thin Italian knife of the same name. Because of their extreme height and narrow diameter, the heels are reinforced inside with steel. This example would literally have been at the height of fashion for the woman who could manage wearing them. Seymour Weitzman (d.1965) was known to shoppers as "Mr. Seymour" who started a shoe factory in Haverhill, Massachusetts, in the late 1950's. He sold his shoes under the label "Seymour Shoes" and "Mr. Seymour." When Seymour Weitzman died in 1965, his son, Stuart Weitzman took over the business with his older brother, Warren Weitzman. They sold the business to a company in Spain in 1972, but Stuart continued to design shoes for the company. In 1994, he bought back the business, but continues to manufacture his shoe designs in Spain.
